Every Child a Reader

At Ford Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to become a reader and that it is the key to success across the curriculum. Developing a love of stories and reading, is also a vital part of the process and we aim to make the journey to successful reading, really fun!

This is an intervention designed for children primarily in Year 1 who need a boost to their early reading skills. Every Child a Reader is delivered by our specially trained teaching assistants. Children learn on a 1:1 basis with the teaching assistant for around 30 minutes every day for up to 16 weeks.

The lessons focus on letter, sound and word knowledge, fluency and comprehension. Children are also supported to write a sentence about what they have read. Around 16 children take part in this each year and adapted sessions are run in Years 2, 3 and 5 when needed.
