What expertise do the staff have to support SEND?

 

All staff have received some training relating to SEND and the interventions used to support different areas of need. All staff receive regular, in school SEND updates and training. 

Some teachers and teaching assistants have also attended specific training for the following:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Emotional Literacy Support

  • Passive Intervention and Prevention Strategies
  • Bereavement Training
  • Relational approaches to behaviour management
  • Dyslexia
  • Epipen training
  • NELI - Nuffield Early Language Intervention
  • Read Write Inc additional support

 

In addition, we have two members of the Foundation Unit staff who are ELKLAN trained (Early Language Support), teaching assistants trained to deliver WAVE 3 reading interventions and three Emotional Literacy Support Assistants.

 

Through Plymouth Excellence Cluster our children also have access to an educational psychologist, family therapists and mentors, play therapist and a drama therapist.

 

Mrs Harris has been a SENDCo for over 15 years and has attended a significant amount of training to support her in this role.
