Welcome to Pine Class!

Welcome to the Pine Class webpage. Here you will find details of our topics and links to useful resources.

PE Days

Please be aware that our PE days for this term are again changing. This is because the Plymouth Argyle coach is now able to return to the school to assist with the PE sessions following the lifting of the stricter COVID restrictions.

For the first week (Beginning Monday 19th April) our PE day will still be on Friday 23rd April.

However, for all subsequent weeks our PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Please ensure that your child is sent to school wearing an appropriate PE kit on these days.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our topic for the Summer term is called ‘A Walk in the Countryside’. Through the topic, we will be learning all about the landscapes and natural environments that comprise the British Isles. This will include learning about life processes and cycles of many organisms. As the term continues, we will begin investigations into the Industrial Revolution and learn about how the country was connected by railways.

Our class book will be 'The Wind in the Willows' which perfectly contrasts the sedate and relaxed countryside with the hustling and vibrant urban and industrial towns and cities.

In addition to the work and studies the children undertake at school, there will be a few areas of their learning for which we greatly appreciate your support in reinforcing at home:

It is very important that the children spend approximately 20 minutes each evening reading a range of texts and discussing them with a grown-up. In addition to this, we will continue to provide children with quality reading time in class and they will be encouraged to complete a reading quiz upon completion of their book to further embed the comprehension of what they have read.

Accurate spelling is a vitally important skill for all children to be able to fully unlock their creative writing potential and therefore we will be setting weekly lists of spellings to be learnt and assessed each Friday. The spelling sheet will include a variety of engaging and effective methods which you can do with your child to help secure their understanding of spelling rules and conventions.

All areas of mathematics will be covered throughout this year, and in order for your child to be able to effectively access more advanced concepts and methods, it is essential that they have a firm understanding of times-tables and swift recall of all tables to 12x12. We recommend that your child regularly accesses the ‘Times-Tables Rock Stars’ online resource to learn their tables in a fun and effective manner.

Our PE days this term will be Mondays and Thursday and we request that you send your child to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Please be mindful of the weather and be sure to provide either black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a white t-shirt, trainers and an appropriate sweatshirt.

If you have any questions at all, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Mr Finnimore
